The 74-year-old star is known for is known for his Oscar-nominated role as Jerry Lundegaard in the 1996 cult-classic Fargo, as well as playing Frank Gallagher in Shameless for 10 years, and the role Dr. David Morgenstern on ER where he was a cast member and guest star for five years, as Daily Voice mentioned over the years when he has previously been spotted in Pennsylvania.
To many Pennsylvanians, Bill Macy is also known as just another man with a family in the Ephrata area. Macy was a 1968 graduate of Allegany High School in Cumberland, MD. His family stayed in the area when he went on to study veterinary medicine at Bethany College in West Virginia before transferring to study acting at Goddard College in Vermont, as he has explained in numerous interviews throughout the years.
He was seen shopping in Ephrata on Friday afternoon and evening on Oct. 18.
A local woman quickly posted about the sighting in an area Facebook group:
"Celebrity alert. William Macy was spotted shopping in Ephrata."
But her neighbors just as quickly clapped back:
"He’s here all the time, let him live his life without his location being announced."
A sentiment others echoed with, "i came here to say this. The man just wants to visit family in peace" and "agreed don’t impose on anyone’s privacy. Its just rude."
The locals soon came to a consensus that it is ok to want to see him and maybe ask for a photo if you meet him randomly, "but announcing it is just wrong."
This soon led to a joke thread starting with:
"CELEBRITY ALERT: Me. I’m here in Ephrata shopping at five guys! Getting my daily 30,000 calories."
Macy recently played Trevathan in the film Kingdom of Planet of the Apes, which is now available to stream on Hulu.
